The stage is set!

While we are still in stay at home mode, Barnardo’s requested an online Gringer workshop for members of their Better Finglas Book Club.

Barnardo’s Eiish Cullen came to Skerries to collect signed copies of Gringer for each child, who received their book just before the video went live.

If it were not for my in-house director, script editor and set designer Isabel (who features in the book) this could never have happened! She and my son Des did a great job with the editing and subsequent uploading. We all learned a lot!

The ironing board came into its own as a stand for the lights and camera!

Gringer as Gaeilge

We have recently been lucky enough to have poet Gabriel Rosenstock translate Gringer the Whinger into Irish. His new name will be Claus Clamhsánaí!

We are hoping to publish the Gaeilge edition in paperback in 2021.

Barnardos Wizards of Words Graduation

It was a great honour to help out at the Barnardos Ireland Wizards of Words (WoW) graduation last month. This wonderful reading programme pairs children from DEIS schools with adult volunteers. The volunteers are trained and supported and work with the children on a one to one basis for half an hour a day, three days a week for eight months. The children are tested before and after and significant progress with literacy is reported, not to mention lots of other benefits as well.

The graduates from four schools (mostly from first class) received a mini Gringer workshop and each was presented with a signed copy of Gringer.

The staff from Barnardos who run this fantastic programme: Michelle King, Suzanne Connolly and Therese O’Doherty.

Gringer goes to Spain and Italy

Que suerte! Gringer is due to be published in Spain and Italy at the end of 2020! Can’t wait to hear what his name will be in Spanish and Italian. The publisher is Picarona, part of Ediciones Obelisco. In Spain Gringer will assume a new identity: Antón el Protestón!
